Delivering a New Energy Future
All of us, everywhere, require energy and this demand continues to grow every year. Gas will help South Africa to meet its increasing energy demands in a responsible way. It will also help the country move closer towards a decarbonised economy, reduce the country’s energy dependence, and introduce a much better priced and affordable fuel alternative.
It makes no sense to ignore the most economically and environmentally viable source of energy available right now. Gas needs to be part of South Africa’s energy mix alongside other energy sources and renewables, to ensure the country’s energy security.
DNG Energy is committed to a future Africa that promotes responsible economic growth, supports sustainable green transport solutions, and improves the lives of all citizens.
Creating a New Way of Energy Delivery
DNG Energy is transforming the refuelling experience. With a commitment to investing in a fully digitised forecourt, the design and operation of LNG service stations prioritise the safety and security of drivers, owners and passengers.
Utilising digital payment technologies the possibility of theft or fraud is eliminated as the premises will be cashless.
LNG converted taxis will be fitted with a sensor that will pair with the filling nozzles fitted with RFID chips at refuelling stations, during the refuelling process. The chips will identify the individual taxi and calculate a price per litre of gas, based on the agreed financial arrangements to finance the tank conversion.
LNG is between 30-40% cheaper than other fossil fuels and so even with the repayment factored in, the refuelling costs for taxis will still be significant, and on average 15-25% less than traditional fuel costs.
The technology deployed in the taxis themselves and at the refuelling stations will enable live calculations, and owners and drivers will immediately receive a digital invoice via text message.
Drivers and owners will also have on-demand visibility, via the online portal, to all their fill-ups and will be able to see, real-time, the balance of their loan and all payments towards it per fill-up.
Contributing to a New Economic Future
The taxi industry is the most important part of South Africa’s public transport system, moving 68% of the 5.4 million daily commuters. It enables South Africans to not only get to their place of work but also transports learners to schools and institutions of higher education, and people to shops, appointments and leisure activities.
Taxis are the backbone of South Africa’s public transport, and critical for lower-income groups to commute to work, to consider job opportunities and to link people with services. This transport needs to be affordable and the percentage of personal income spent on commuting should not deter or inhibit social inclusion or economic participation by lower-income groups.
Gas is a cheaper and cleaner alternative to traditional fuels of diesel and petrol and its availability in South Africa will not only provide a cheaper, more cost effective fuel alternative, the additional environmental benefits will also impact the country’s economic future.
With lower greenhouse gas emissions than other fossil fuels, the reduced pollution levels will contribute to much cleaner air and reduce pollution-related issues and associated health care costs.
To ensure that owners and drivers are able to take advantage of LNG as an alternative fuel and realise the economic benefits in a short period of time with no capital outlay or downtime, DNG Energy has developed an innovative and economically favourable partnership model.
LNG is the energy of progress for South Africa – economically, socially and environmentally.
